Traffic Sign Redesign

In NYC, confusing traffic signs can be spotted down every block and standing on every corner. They are extremely hard to read and understand, resulting in many parking tickets.

Prompt: Redesign a NYC parking sign

My design process:

  • what information can be omitted?

  • what parts of the sign need to be prioritized?

  • How can I simplify?

My Solution:

  • I omitted the original text that explained when the streets were being cleaned. Ultimately it was saying that parking was not allowed before 8 AM

  • The most important part of the sign is stressing when/when you can not park

  • to simplify, I wanted to base my design on iconography and graphics because it is easier to decipher as you are driving
